BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College cycling program announced the signing of Nicholas Sdrenka (Gilberts, Ill.) Thursday afternoon. Sdrenka is the 12th signee for the Bobcats this spring as they continue to prep for the upcoming 2017-18 season.
"Nicholas has proven himself in the WORS mountain bike series the past two seasons in Wisconsin, which is traditionally a tough series," said LMC Head Coach Tim Hall. "We believe he has a lot of room to grow as a rider, but he should perform quite well for us right away. He is a hard worker on the bike, a dedicated student, and does some community trail building – all of which are attributes we value at Lees-McRae."
Sdrenka, who also was a competitive snowboarder with USASA before signing with LMC, has competed in the Wisconsin Off-Road Series (WORS) the past two years. The Gilberts, Ill. Native finished first in 2016 and was second in 2015 in the WORS. Sdrenka, who also notched a second place finish at the Midwest Championship last year, helps maintain and design trails with the Chicago Area Mountain Bikers in his spare time.
"What I really liked about LMC after visiting and experiencing it first hand is it is a beautiful place for me to learn, develop and pursue my passion," Sdrenka said of his choice to attend Lees-McRae. "The trails here are fantastic with lots of hills. The College seems very close knit and personable."
Sdrenka intends on majoring in business administration, while pursuing a minor in cycling studies when he steps on campus this fall.
