DUE WEST, S.C. --- Seniors Kendall Isler and Austin Anderson combined for 33 points, but the Lees-McRae men's basketball dropped a heartbreaker, 67-66, to Erskine at Belk Arena Tuesday evening in Conference Carolinas play in Due West, S.C.
The Flying Fleet (7-9, 4-6 CC) avenged a loss earlier in the season thanks to a trio of players scoring at least 15 points. The Bobcats (11-9, 7-3) had four players with five rebounds or more.
Anderson (Anderson, S.C.) has tallied double figures in every game but two that he has participated in.
Both teams exchanged early threes before four points from Isler (Winder, Ga.) put LMC up, 11-7.
EC's defense clamped down and held the Bobcats without a field goal for 4:44 before junior Josh Gaither (Statesville, N.C.) knocked down a jumper with 9:55 remaining in the first half.
Gaither and Isler sparked a quick 8-0 run while the Bobcats held a 22-19 advantage.
Both offenses grew stagnant and didn't score for over 3:30 before five consecutive points from Anderson gave LMC a 30-22 lead.
EC's Ray Lock knocked down a trio of shots from the charity stripe to cut the deficit to two, 45-43.
Anderson and the Flying Fleet's Joby Glymph exchanged triples late in the second before a Glymph jumper gave EC its first lead of the night, 57-56.
With time winding down, both squads went bucket-for-bucket.
LMC's Lepreece Lynch (Winston-Salem, N.C.) hit a jumper with 28 seconds left, 66-65.
The Flying Fleet used a jumper in the lane from Blake Maness with four seconds remaining to eke out an unlikely victory.
Isler (17) and Anderson (16) led the team in points while Gaither and Lynch grabbed seven rebounds each.
