BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's basketball team made a bit of history Saturday evening at Williams Gymnasium as it set a new school record for points in a game during the Division II era by scoring 119 points in a 119-86 win over Tusculum. Additionally, the Bobcats racked up 19 three-pointers made, which is also a new record for the program.
The 119 points scored by the Bobcats were contributed by several different players as 14 of the 15 players who played at least scored three points. Four LMC players finished in double figures. Jordan Turner led the way with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while fellow senior Lepreece Lynch not far behind finishing with 20 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Rounding out the double-figure scorers for LMC was Jason Saintizaire who totaled 17 points and Quay Kimble chipped in 12.
Much like the general scoring was Saturday, LMC's three-point shooting came from a variety of players. LMC had eight players hit at least one shot from beyond the arc with three of those players finishing with four or more. Six of Turner's seven made shots in the game came on three-pointers, while Lynch and Kimble both made four threes as well.
Lees-McRae, now 1-1 on the season, will look to maintain this momentum this week with three games on tap. LMC will begin the week with an exhibition game at UNC Asheville Monday before participating in the Newberry Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Tip-off time between the Bobcats and Bulldogs Monday is set for 7 p.m.
