Freshmen Lead Charge at HPU VertKlasse Meeting

HIGH POINT, N.C. --- Junior Kendall Isler and freshman Makayla Estep earned first place finishes in their respective events while the Lees-McRae track and field teams participated at the HPU VertKlasse Meeting over the weekend in High Point, N.C.

LMC participated in the college division.

Isler (Winder, Ga.) won the high jump with a height of 1.89 meters.

Estep (Moravian Falls, N.C.) earned a victory in the 400-meter hurdles with a sparkling time of 1:06.09.

Freshman Christian Parker (Richmond, Va.) continued his solid first year campaign with a second place finish in the 400-meter run with a time of 49.75 seconds.

Parker was on a fourth-place team in the 4x100-meter relays before running a leg of the 4x400-meter that finished fourth.

The freshman joined Tyree Reed (Phenix City, Ala.), Gabriel Blackmon (College Park, Ga.) and Matthew Darden (Columbus, N.C.) to produce a time of 42.54 in the 100-meter relay before accompanying Blackmon, Reed and Davante Scott (Hopkins, S.C.) in the 400, using a time of 3:22.07.

Blackmon earned a top-five finish in the 200-meter dash while finishing fourth with a mark of 22.27. The freshman would later finish seventh in the 400-meter run with a time of 49.37.

Freshman Jamie Colon finished fifth in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 46:30.92.

LMC will send split squads to Knoxville, Tenn. and Greensboro, N.C. April 10-11.
