WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College Track & Field programs put together a strong showing at the Conference Carolinas Indoor Championships Sunday in Winston-Salem, N.C. The men's team finished fourth, while the women's squad notched a seventh place finish. Overall, four athletes broke school records and three have earned spots on the qualifying list to perhaps compete in the NCAA National Indoor Championships next month.
"It was a good conference meet on the men's side," said LMC Head Coach Ley Fletcher. "We had several top three finishes and the fourth-place team finish is the best finish we have ever had in the indoor championships."
Cody McNeely won the Men's 800m Run to lead the men's squad. Among the other top finishers Sunday was Kendall Isler who finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 14.37m. Even though Isler did not win the event, he did break the school record in the event with his jump on Sunday. Additionally, freshman Haanes Huyuck also broke a school record in the 60m Hurdles with a time of 8.36 and finished third.
"On the women's side I was very proud of the way we competed," remarked Fletcher. "Whenever you get two individual championship performances and they accomplish national qualifying marks that is a very good day."
The two individual champions for the Bobcats were Mekayla Boswell in the jump and Erin Bingham in the 60m Hurdles. Boswell and Bingham not only won their respective events but they also earned national qualifying marks and broke school records in those events as well.
"We will take a day off tomorrow and get back to work on Tuesday," Fletcher said. "We will try to keep getting better as the outdoor season will be approaching shortly."
