BANNER ELK, N.C. – The duo of Karl Deichmann and Wes Rogmann, which combined for 16 kills on 31 attempts, led the Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-21) victory over Pfeiffer Saturday night at Williams Gymnasium.
Set 1: After allowing the first point to the Falcons, the Bobcats promptly went on a 5-0 run to gain the lead for good in the first. LMC, which went on to win the first set 25-19, held the Falcons' offense to a hitting percentage of -.080 in 25 attempts in the opening stanza.
Set 2: Unlike the first, the Bobcats trailed the majority of the second set. LMC bounced back to tie the score at 16-16 before closing out the second on an 8-3 run to notch its second straight 25-19 set victory. Mark Shayka and Rogman combined for eight of the team's 11 kills in the frame to lead the Bobcats.
Set 3: The Bobcat defense stepped up once again in the third to help finish off the match. LMC held Pfeiffer to a -.100 hitting percentage on 20 attempts. Despite their work defensively, the Bobcats had to battle back from committing seven service errors in the frame. Sophomore Hector Serviat led these efforts with five kills on seven attempts to finish off the match, 25-21.
Next Up: Lees-McRae, now 3-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play, will hit the road next weekend for a pair of Conference Carolinas matches. The road swing will begin Friday at Erskine before wrapping up at Emmanuel (GA) Saturday. Start times for those matches are 7 and 1 p.m., respectively.
