DUE WEST, S.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball dropped a four-set decision on the road at Erskine Friday (25-18, 23-25, 25-20, 30-28). The loss moves LMC's record to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in Conference Carolinas play.
Set 1: Lees-McRae held a 15-14 lead over the Flying Fleet. Erskine followed that up with a 7-0 run to open a seven-point lead on LMC. The newly-formed deficit proved too much for the Bobcats to overcome as it dropped the first set, 25-18.
Set 2: Mark Shayka notched four kills on seven attempts to lead Lees-McRae to a 25-23 set victory over the Flying Fleet in the second set. The Bobcats' defense also stepped up keeping Erskine's hitting percentage to .077 on 26 attempts for the frame.
Set 3: After the offensive struggles in the second, Erskine rebounded to hit a match-high .400 on its way to a 25-20 victory in the third. The Bobcats hit .310 on 29 attempts and Hector Serviat posted seven kills in the stanza but it was not enough to overcome the Flying Fleet.
Set 4: LMC was leading 24-20 in the fourth set, but the Flying Fleet scored the next five points to force the frame to go to extra points. The two teams battled over the next few points until Erskine scored three straight points to close out the match, 30-28.
Next Up: LMC will round out this road swing Saturday when it travels to Emmanuel (GA). First serve is set for 1 p.m.
