BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team dropped a five-set thriller Wednesday evening to Limestone College (25-22, 22-25, 18-25, 25-18, 15-7). The loss moves LMC's record to 4-9 overall and 2-6 in conference action.
Set 1: The Saints won the opening frame, 25-22, due to their work offensively. Limestone hit .345 as a team in 29 attempts in the frame. LC built a three-point lead at 14-11 midway through the stanza, and the Bobcats never got closer than that until the Saints finished off the frame.
Set 2: Neither team had much of an advantage statistically or on the scoreboard through much of the second set. The Bobcats, however, went on a 5-2 run to close out the second to tie the match at one a side, 25-22. Wes Rogman totaled six of his 10 kills in the second as well.
Set 3: LMC used stellar performances offensively and from the service line to upend the Saints in the third, 25-18. Overall, the Bobcats hit .300 in the third with 10 kills. Karl Deichmann had half of those 10 kills with five to pace the Bobcats' attack.
Set 4: Limestone came storming back in the fourth with a .400-attack percentage performance. The Bobcats committed a total of 13 errors in the fourth coming from the attack, service, receiving and block errors. The two statistical categories allowed Limestone to tie the match at 2-2 with a 25-18 set victory.
Set 5: Unfortunately for Lees-McRae, the miscues continued to pile up in the fifth set. The Bobcats had seven attack errors in the fifth, which allowed the Saints to cruise to a 15-7 win to finish off the match.
The Bobcats will return to action Saturday when they host North Greenville at Williams Gymnasium. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
