BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team battled but fell to Queens (N.C.) University Thursday night at Williams Gymnasium in four sets (27-25, 22-25, 29-27, 29-27). The loss moves the Bobcats' record to 2-8 on the season.

Set 1 – The Royals led the Bobcats by as many as five points in the opening stanza Thursday but the Bobcats clawed back to tie the score at 18. Both squads traded turns with the lead and the tally was tied at 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25. It was the Royals that came up with points when they needed them with the score knotted at 25 with back-to-back kills to take the opening frame, 27-25.

Set 2 – Lees-McRae came out and put together its best performance of the contest in the second set. LMC hit a match-high .464 on 28 attempts and totaled 19 kills to even the match at a set a piece. Wes Rogman, Joseph Valadez and Spencer Graf powered LMC's attack combining for 13 of the team's 19 kills in the frame.

Set 3 – Much like the first set, neither team had much in way of a lead in the third. Lees-McRae mounted a rally from a five-point deficit to tie the score at 24. The scoreboard continued to show ties at 25, 26 and 27 until Queens notched back-to-back points with kills to pull in front of the Bobcats with a 29-27 win.

Set 4 – In what proved to be the final set of the contest, the Bobcats were hampered heavily by errors. LMC totaled 12 attack errors and seven service errors in the fourth. Even with the miscues, the Bobcats still forced the Royals to extra points but ended up falling just short, 29-27.

Stat Standouts – Rogman posted a team-high 17 kills finishing one shy of his career-best. Graf also had a solid outing finishing with a career-high 11 kills on 25 attacks, while finishing with a team-high four service aces. Setting both players up was Valadez who finished with career-highs in assists (41) and kills (9). Valadez also chipped in three aces and seven digs in the match.

Next Up – The Bobcats will have nine days to prepare for their next match, which will be February 17 when they host Limestone. First serve for that match is set for 2 p.m.
