CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae softball fell 6-1, 6-0, in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Park Road Park to Queens (N.C.) in Charlotte, N.C.

The Royals (1-4) earned their first win of the season after Samantha Martinez drove in a pair of runs and Brooke Sanford went 3-for-3. The Bobcats (1-4) saw freshman Emily Merriam (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) drive in her first collegiate run.
LMC freshman Noel Cassidy (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) had a field day behind the plate while throwing out three Royals attempting to steal. She hosed Sanford twice.
Queens plated three runs in the bottom of the third after amassing four hits in the frame.
Martinez drove in Sanford with one out after Sanford led the inning off with a double.
Two batters later, Venus Gonzalez roped a RBI single to center, allowing Martinez to score.
The Royals tallied another run after a Bobcat error.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Royals scored twice after run-scoring singles off the bat of Sanford and Martinez.
Queens scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth following an error.
LMC cracked the scoreboard in the top of the seventh thanks to a single from Brea Lawson (King, N.C.) and RBI single from Merriam.
Kara Cunningham (Indian Trail, N.C.) (0-3) suffered the loss after going three innings and allowing three runs with two strikeouts.
Lyndey McCurry (1-2) earned with win by going the distance and scattering four hits.

The Royals (2-4) completed the sweep with a complete game shutout from Catelyn Presley (1-1). The Bobcats (1-5) enjoyed a two-hit performance from Cunningham.
McCurry put the home squad up by two with a double to left in the bottom of the first, 2-0.
The Royals hung a four-spot in the fourth, amassing three hits and sending eight batters to the plate.
LMC threatened in the top of the sixth after putting runners on the corners following singles from Cunningham and Charlie Dutton (Monroe, Ga.).
Queens escaped the jam with a flyout and groundout.
Dutton (1-2) suffered the loss when she allowed six runs and nine hits.
LMC travels to Hickory, N.C. Saturday, Feb. 13 for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. against Concord University. The Bobcats take on Mercyhurst at 5 p.m.
