WILSON, N.C. --- Senior Kabrina Truesdale scored a game-high 19 points and senior teammate Kerri Belcher swiped a game-high 11 rebounds, but the Lees-McRae women's basketball team dropped a 66-57 decision to Conference Carolinas foe Barton Friday evening at Wilson Gymnasium in Wilson, N.C.
The Bulldogs (8-10, 7-4 CC) used an 18-point performance from Shatisha Dukes while Kaila Lea pestered LMC with seven steals. The Bobcats (5-13, 4-8) dominated the boards (37-26) while dishing out 14 assists.
BC's defense stymied LMC while holding it without a basket for 6:30 to creep out to a 15-5 lead at the 11:30 mark.
Truesdale (Wilmington, N.C.) scored three consecutive buckets for the Bobcats, but a Lea steal and three-pointer gave the Bulldogs a 23-12 advantage.
Junior Tayler Collins (Fayetteville, N.C.) tallied a pair of buckets, but BC knocked down a pair of threes in a 29-second span to take a 33-20 lead into the break.
The Bulldogs forced 19 first half turnovers while connected on five shots from behind the arc.
Blankenship tallied 14 points on the evening.
A Truesdale jumper made it 44-42, but BC responded with a three from Shadawn Clanton to push the lead back to five.
LMC shot a blistering 57.7% from the field in the final 20 minutes.
Lea splashed two crucial threes to extend the advantage to nine, 59-50, with 3:07 remaining.
Truesdale sunk a pair of free throws, but BC was able to stave off the rally in the waning moments.
The Bobcats travel to Mount Olive Saturday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. for a CC game.
