BRISTOL, Tenn. --- Senior Kerri Belcher scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds while the Lees-McRae women's basketball team dropped its season finale to King (Tenn.), 78-47, in a Conference Carolinas bout at the Student Center Complex Tuesday night in Bristol, Tenn.
The Tornado (20-8, 15-7 CC) shot an impressive 54.7% on the day while grabbing the No. 2 seed in the Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Tournament. The Bobcats (6-21, 5-17) grabbed 41 rebounds, including a game-high 12 from Tayler Collins (Fayetteville, N.C.).
The loss eliminated LMC from playoff contention while Belcher (Roanoke, Va.) and Kabrina Truesdale (Wilmington, N.C.) concluded their Bobcat careers.
Both offenses came out sluggish while King held a 13-6 lead with 9:43 remaining in the first after a trio of Tia Keitt free throws.
King's Jalan Harper and Arnelle Collins jumpstarted a 12-1 run over the next 2:09, by combining for 10 points.
Truesdale, Belcher and freshman Lexus Norwood (Knoxville, Tenn.) got the Bobcat offense rolling and trimmed the deficit to nine, 28-19.
LMC forced 10 turnovers in the first half while Truesdale scored eight points.
Sophomore Niroska Perez (Asheville, N.C.) splashed a three at the 14 minute mark to keep LMC within striking distance, 47-36.
King ceased control of the game with a 23-0 run over the next 9:59.
Belcher knocked down a pair of jumpers in her last four minutes of action.
LMC dominated the offensive glass (14-3) while the Tornado had four players in double digits.
