GAFFNEY, S.C. – Limestone's Alex Mathis scored in the 43rd minute, which proved to be all the offense the Saints needed to knock off the Lees-McRae College women's soccer team in the semifinals of the Conference Carolinas Tournament as they went on to win, 2-0. The Bobcats finish their 2016 season with a record of 7-12-0 and 6-5 in league play.
Limestone peppered Lees-McRae with shots in the opening half totaling 16 shots in the frame compared to two for the Bobcats, including 6-2 on net. Mathis' goal was the only shot to get past LMC goalkeeper Alexis Feely as she stopped the other five shots she faced.
Lees-McRae shored up its defense in the second half keeping the Saints to just four shots on goal in the frame. Despite the added pressure by the Bobcats, Limestone added an unassisted goal from Shannon Dougherty in the 78th minute to close out the scoring Friday afternoon.
The Bobcats will have quite a bit of experience returning to the pitch in 2017 as they are scheduled to return 18 players currently on the roster. However, Lees-McRae will lose six players to graduation including Lena Langille, Cheyenne Warrick, Emma McGovern, Erin Barcal, Julie Perkins and Allison Capps.
