BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Freshman Logan Slusher paced the team with nine kills and Courtney Weathersbee supplied 21 assists while the Lees-McRae women's volleyball team fell to North Greenville, 23-25, 18-25, 18-25, in a Conference Carolinas match Friday evening at Williams Gymnasium in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Crusaders (11-4, 3-2 CC) were led by Kenzie Pierce, who cranked out a match-high 17 kills. The Bobcats (5-10, 2-4) defense produced eight block assists and three solo blocks.
Weathersbee (Raleigh, N.C.) tacked on seven digs, a solo block and block assist to go with her double-digit assist effort.
NGU held a 21-16 lead late in the first set before consecutive aces from Lexi Zangari (Breckenridge, Colo.) and a Slusher (Hayes, Va.) kill to mount a 5-0 rally to tie it.
The Crusaders used a pair of kills from Pierce to eventually claim the set.
The visitors took advantage of a 12-2 run to win the second set.
LMC used strong play from Haylee Leonard (Wallburg, N.C.) to dig itself out of a 12-6 hole to cut the deficit to one, 18-17.
NGU responded with a 7-1 run to close out the contest.
The Bobcats will enjoy an eight-day break before welcoming King (Tenn.) Saturday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. for a CC tilt in Williams Gym.
