FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team closed out its regular season with a 3-1 win (25-22, 20-25, 25-21, 25-16) over Emmanuel (GA) Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats improve to 11-17 overall and 7-9 in conference play with the victory.
Lees-McRae had several standout performers Saturday, including Madigan Gonzales who posted 12 kills on 21 attempts with just one attack error (.524 hitting percentage). Senior Haylee Leonard matched Gonzales's 12 kills and also contributed five digs.
Setting up both Gonzales and Leonard was Courtney Weathersbee. Weathersbee totaled 32 assists, which is the most in a match for the Raleigh, N.C. native since she posted 36 assists against Southern Wesleyan on Sept. 29.
Junior Madison Martin reached the 20-dig plateau for the sixth time in 2016 with 20 digs Saturday. Elissa Small also reached double figures in digs with 11. Small also posted 10 kills to complete her first double-double of her collegiate career.
The Bobcats will be the No. 4 seed in the North Division in the Conference Carolinas Volleyball Tournament which begins Tuesday evening. LMC will travel to the top seed from the South Division, Erskine, Tuesday evening. The start time of the match has not yet been announced.
