MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of three-set decisions on day two of the Bobcat Classic Saturday in Milledgeville, Georgia. First, Lees-McRae fell to Anderson (S.C.) in straight frames (25-10, 25-14, 25-18) before falling in three to Georgia College, 25-14, 27-25 and 28-26. With the results Saturday, the Bobcats drop to 0-3 on the season.
Anderson Recap – In their first match of the day the Bobcats struggled to get things going offensively. Lees-McRae totaled 20 kills over the course of the three-set tilt in 96 attempts. However, Lees-McRae committed 26 attack errors to finish the match with a hitting percentage of -.062. A major reason for this was the play of the Trojan defense as they posted 39 digs and 10 block assists in the contest.
Individually, the Bobcats were led by the duo of Caitlyn Smirne and Courtney Weathersbee. Smirne paced LMC's offense with seven kills to go along with five digs, while Weathersbee dished out 10 assists and finished with five digs as well.
Georgia College Recap – Following the first set where Lees-McRae saw Georgia College hit .625 on its way to a 25-14 set victory, it stepped up and put together its best effort of the weekend losing the final two frames by a combined four points.
The big keys for LMC in the second and third sets were its work for the service line and defensively. As a team, the Bobcats finished the match with 11 aces with six of those coming from sophomore Darian Parsons. The 11 aces are the most for the Bobcats in a single match since Sept. 21, 2016 when the squad totaled 12 aces against Belmont Abbey. Defensively, the Bobcats had three players reach double figures in digs with Madison Martin pacing these efforts with a season-high 15.
Next Up: Lees-McRae will look to pick up its first victory of the season next Saturday when it travels to Hickory, N.C. for a non-conference match against Lenoir-Rhyne. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.
