PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions to Shaw and Coker on the final day of the UNC Pembroke Invitational on Saturday. With the pair of losses, Lees-McRae's record moves to 1-7 on the season.
Shaw Recap – In its opening match against Shaw, the Bobcats ran into an offense that was on a mission. As a team, the Bears hit .282 on 103 attacks. Saraya Kink provided the bulk of the offense for the Bears with 13 kills on 21 attacks. Along with the performance by Kink, the Bears also had two other players in Karla Sosa and Tapanga Moten that hit better than .400 in 10 or more attacks for the match. With Shaw's balanced attack rolling, the Bobcats fell in three sets: 25-16, 25-20, 25-16.
Sophomore Caitlyn Smirne led the Bobcat attack totaling eight of the team's 28 kills in the contest. Smirne was also one of two Bobcats to finish with double-figure dig totals against the Bears with 10. Joining Smirne with double-figures in digs was Allie Cunningham, who had a team-high 12 digs.
Coker Recap – The Bobcats struggled to get their offense rolling in their final match of the weekend. As a team, Lees-McRae committed at least six attack errors in each of the three sets. Coker took full advantage of these miscues to sweep the Bobcats for the second straight weekend (25-15, 25-22, 25-17).
Elissa Small led the Bobcat attack with nine kills. Setting Small and the rest of Bobcat attackers up against Coker was Megan Gallion. Gallion finished the contest with 21 assists and 13 digs for her second double-double performance of the season.
Next Up – Lees-McRae will be back in action next weekend when it heads to Athens, West Virginia for three more non-conference matches against Concord, West Virginia Tech and Kentucky State.
